What are digital Badges and how can they be used
in schools to credential learning?
Digital Badges first appeared in online gaming as a way to incentivise learning and 'track' a gamer as they made their way through levels of tasks and challenges. It was only when the MacArthur Foundation and Mozilla explored the potential use of digital badges as a way to credential (and micro-credential) learning in non-traditional contexts, that the use of these badges in education was considered a potentially powerful way to capture rich evidence about a student's learning. Use the resources in this section to find out more about the evolution of digital badging in education and the affordances of this new open badge technology.
